As part of the Leader XI project, an Inspekt Duo5 universal testing machine for mini specimens was purchased. Laboratory of Plastic Deformation Under High Pressure often obtains rods with dimensions that make it impossible to produce standard specimens for static tearing tests. In this case we use ‘mini’ specimens, which will break at much lower forces. The ‘mini’ specimens are typically less than 9 mm in length and allow samples to be taken both transverse and longitudinal to the axis of the extruded rod. This makes it possible to study the anisotropy of properties in two transverse directions. This is essential data, especially for materials with medical applications such as implants.
