We are very pleased to announce that Dr Jacek Skiba, an employee of our High Pressure Plasticity Laboratory, has become the manager of a new research project funded by the National Science Centre within the OPUS 28 competition.
Project title: ‘Development of a method to obtain new seamless tubes from bioabsorbable Zn-Mg alloys using hydrostatic extrusion’.
The aim of the project is to develop a novel technology for obtaining seamless tubes from bioabsorbable zinc-magnesium (Zn-Mg) alloys using advanced high-pressure forming methods. Such materials have great potential for biomedical applications – including as implants that undergo controlled biodegradation in the body.
The project will be carried out by a scientific consortium comprising:
Institute of High Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences – consortium leader,
Aleksander Krupkowski Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science, Polish Academy of Sciences.
Funding granted: PLN 1 606 862.
This is a significant award and another step towards the development of innovative materials technologies in our laboratory. We congratulate Dr Jacek Skiba and keep our fingers crossed for the success of the implemented project!
