PhD. Eng. Jacek Skiba from January 2021 is heading the project “Innovative electrodes for the EDM process with increased service life”, which received funding from the National Centre for Research and Development as part of the “Tango IV” competition.

The aim of the project is to develop a new generation of electrodes for electrical discharge machining of pure copper and alloyed copper with increased service life and improved quality of the machined surface. The realisation of the project will consist in the optimisation of the process of high-pressure metal forming by hydrostatic extrusion of both materials, which will allow to obtain an ultrafine-grained microstructure characterised by reduced susceptibility to electrical discharge wear occurring in the hollowing process, while improving the quality of the machined surface.
