We co-authored a paper on improving the mechanical properties of 3D printed polylactide (PLA) composites by using diatomaceous earth as a filler and cold hydrostatic extrusion. The results show that with these methods it is possible to almost double the compressive strength of the material, as well as significantly reducing the porosity of the prints. This is an important step towards more robust and environmentally friendly 3D printing filaments!
