A visit to the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow took place on February 21-22, 2025. The visit was held within the framework of the mini-symposium Bioabsorbable zinc-based materials for bone implants and stents.
We had the pleasure of hosting scientists from the Czech Academy of Sciences (Jan Pinc, Drahomír Dvorský, Jaroslav Čapek), the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Francisca Seabra, Martin Balog, Yujie Zhao), the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague (David Nečas).
The invited guests gave the following presentations:
– “Research on Partially and Fully Bioresorbable Metals”. – Francisca Seabra, Institute of Materials and Mechanics of Machinery, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava, Slovakia;
– “Research on Mimicking the Body Environment in the Degradation Processes of Permanent and Biodegradable Implants”. – Jaroslav Čapek, Institute of Physics, Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague, Czech Republic;
– “Effect of Powder Metallurgy Processing on the Mechanical and Corrosion Behaviour of Biodegradable Zinc Alloys” – David Nečas, Department of Metals and Corrosion Engineering, University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, Czech Republic.
Meetings were also held to present the results of joint research conducted in this field at IMIM PAN and IWC PAN, to exchange experiences and to establish plans for future scientific cooperation. The participants of the meeting discussed the conditions for the formation of the joint team “Central Europe Bio Resorb-Metal Group” and potential directions of future activity, aimed at extensive scientific and research cooperation and joint application for research grants.
